CommentLuv enabled for all blogReaction users

May 25, 2011 at 3:59 PM in Industry News by Official blogReaction Blog
blogReaction is proud to announce that we have completed our integration with CommentLuv.

When commenting on any blog on blogReaction, users and visitors will now have the ability to use CommentLuv to receive a dofollow link to their most recent blog post (or if registered on ComLuv, a recent post of their choice).

From my own personal experience, CommentLuv has been very helpful in promoting blogs and increasing readership and interaction. Some people might claim that this can increase spam, but our filters will catch those pests without a problem, and the benefits greatly exceed any cons.

Try it out and let us know what you think!

What is the best free blogging platform?

November 15, 2010 at 11:41 PM in Industry News by Official blogReaction Blog
The answer is blogReaction, but we need you to help us improve it.

We need our visitors and users to help us out as we plan out new features for our service. So we have come up with the following questions, and would appreciate your reply via comments.

What features are most important to you?
  • Having my content rated and placed on the front page of blogReaction, which dramatically helps my rankings in search engine results.
  • Being able to customize the theme of my blog, so I can make it look how I want.
  • Having the ability to add HTML widgets to my sidebar and blog posts.
  • Making money with my blog via advertising revenue sharing.
  • My blog needs to load very fast. I'm tired of slow blogging platforms.
  • Spam controls that actually work.

There is our list, now let's see yours. We are always looking for ways to improve our free blogging platform, so please don't be shy. If it can be written, it can usually be done and it benefits everyone.

On a side note, blogReaction is growing very rapidly and we thank you all for making it so great. We are aware of some of the "junk" posts, but it gets filtered from the front page very quickly with our ranking algorithm. Our ranking system is made so that as we grow, it dynamically gets better and will have more relevant and popular posts making it to the front pages.

Reviewing the New Google AdSense Interface

October 29, 2010 at 4:53 PM in Industry News by Official blogReaction Blog
Well.. I wen't to login to our adsense account today and was prompted to test out the new (beta?) Google Adsense interface.

At first glance, the layout looks cleaner, and the home page looks like an actual dashboard. I can't move blocks around, but I get the idea that it might be offered in the future.

On the dashboard, it is very easy to see your current day's earnings, your unpaid earnings, and your last payment amount and date. There is also a direct link to go to your analytics account.

Onward to "My Ads" tab, it loads quickly and it is very easy to see which ad units are active.

The most appealing new feature I saw was Performance Reports. The view is very clean and organized, and you can get a quick glance at how well your account is performing.

Overall, I like the new interface a LOT. I'd recommend anyone try it out if they offer you access to it.

TerrastorePHP - A lightweight PHP5 class for interfacing with Terrastore

October 23, 2010 at 4:02 AM in Programming by Official blogReaction Blog
As blogReaction grows, we are always looking for ways to keep it running lightning quick. We have managed well so far, but are looking at the future and what technologies we will use to grow.

If you don't want to read why this PHP class was created, just go ahead and grab it here: TerrastorePHP

-- Begin Nerd Speak --
Currently we are using PHP, MySQL, Sphinx, and Memcached to serve up pages so quick. Someday I will explain how it all works together, but for now I will just say that MySQL and Sphinx are limited in their ability to scale horizontally (by just adding more servers to a pool) without a major headache.

There are several options for replacing MySQL out there, and many are great candidates. We have looked at Redis, Cassandra, MongoDB, and Terrastore. Our (MY) final decision was to use Terrastore. I'm not sure if it is the fastest, but it is fast. The main reason is how easy it is to scale with growth, how well it protects the data and keeps multiple copies always available, and the fast release cycle which means it is always improving.

As a replacement for Sphinx , we have considered many, but have landed on ElasticSearch, which just so happens to have a direct integration with Terrastore. A no-brainer for us to choose ElasticSearch for our search and ranking algorithms.

Not sure when we will begin testing and implementing these new technologies, but we have plenty of time to get it all perfect.
