New Bing Webmaster Tools - No more backlinks?

July 23, 2010 at 1:08 AM in Industry News by Official blogReaction Blog

Where did the backlinks listing go?

I just logged into my Bing Webmaster Tools, which I started to actually like, and all of a sudden I am hit with a brand new webmaster tools interface, based on Silverlight. Ok.. it looks cool enough and has graphs, right.

Digging around the new tools, I am looking everywhere to see which pages are indexed, and finally found them -- very cool feature to know the last index date and request a recrawl ASAP.

I then ventured onward to look for my old backlinks listing that I was used to. Not there. Nope. Nada.. Nowhere. Why would Bing go and do something crazy like that when they are trying to compete with Google. Perhaps they do not care, or maybe they are still working on the 30 minutes of programming that it would take them to include the backlinks listing.

What are you thoughts about this?

Udegbunam Chukwudi | Make Money Tried signing up for Bing last night but the damn didn't just work 'cause of SilverLight. I'll download that when I've got time and try again.
Personally I don't find Google's backlink listling helpful so I guess Bing's removing this feature wouldn't really bug me that much.

P.S: Your comment form sure does takes some time to load .

<span style='color:#d00;'>blog</span>Hi Udegbunam,

I personally find Yahoo Site Explorer the best for backlinks (for free) and Seomoz's Open Site Explorer (paid) is really good.

How long are comments taking to load? Maybe it was just a slight hiccup with the server at the time. As soon as you move the mouse, it should grab the form and display it via AJAX. I've never seen it take longer than a second. Let me know if it takes that long to load when you visit again.

David KnappI haven't used bing enough to notice the change. So far they haven't indexed my site too much. Actually I need to make sure I have their meta in my php heading.

VictorI tried using Bing as well, but I never seem to get any real feedback or signs that Bing is indexing my pages. I'm sticking with Google!
